nail envy opi instructions

My toes have been unlucky since childhood for all my life they have just repeatedly smashed into one thing or the other.  Therefore, my poor toenails have always been cracked and they grow with cracks too. A few months back, my left foot’s big toe suffered a serious injury and as a consequence, the nail bed kept bleeding for a while. Eventually, blood clotted under the nail and hence the toenail itself was separated from the actual nail bed but remained on my toe as it was bound to the blood clot beneath it. I hope it all makes sense.

I did see a doctor and there was not much that could be done without enduring more pain so I was given some antiseptics and medicines but the only way I have been able to get rid of the old nail is by clipping it regularly as the new nail grew underneath.

Fast forward, a month ago, I was introduced to OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener. This has been formulated with wheat protein and calcium and claims to strengthen nail by resisting cracking, peeling and splitting. Sounds perfect for my toenails, right?

Well, when I started using this product, only a small portion of my old nail was left which you can see in the images below (warning: they will be gross). However, my new nail was again growing with cracks so I was in need of such a product. I used this nail strengthener as directed, so I applied two coats the first time and then one coat every other day. Apparently, this is a matte base coat but I did not wear nail polish at all during this time and did not even remove this before applying a new coat every other day. Towards the end of the month, the product buildup gave a yellow appearance so I did remove it but was amazed that my nail now looked much better and way less cracked than it previously did.

Do note that I only clipped my toenails once during this time since toenails grow much slower than fingernails. Both the photos are without the product applied and you can see the before and after yourself to see how much of a difference there is. Overall, I am pretty pleased with the results and would continue using it.In desperation I spent £18 on some Nail Envy, the one for peeling nails. I've followed the instructions but it just seems to crack and come off. I'm tempted to add some Seche Vite but that will mean I can't add a new layer every two days. My nails really need this - help!

Incidently they had a guide on using it for "a perfect manicure". But for that you put the nail envy on top of a base coat, how's that meant to work???

Opi Nail Envy Nail Strengthener For Sensitive & Peeling Nails Ingredients (explained)

I always apply a top coat (of colour) over Nail Envy. I can't imagine it having much holding power on its own. Unless you apply a top up coat of it each day.

I've stopped using nail strengtheners etc and just dab on a teeny tiny amount of vaseline on each nail at bedtime..a quick rub in and you will feel the difference the next day. In one week your nails will be strong but supple.

2 layers as instructed, ready for extra coat every two days. Although a complete shattered looking mess before the end of day one.

If I'm to add another layer every two days I can't put something pretty on top. But without doing so it just comes off!

I apply two coats on a Sunday then a single coat Tues, Thurs and Sat. Clean it all off on a Sunday and start again for the week. It does work. No need for polish if you don't want to.

So you put the extra costs on top of the coloured polish? I just don't understand how it is meant to help the nail if there is something between them.

I do the same as Maiden but mine is clear or light pink (I have both) I didn't know they made other shades

Mine is just clear. But I don't get how it is thick enough to stay until you put the next coat on- it's just a cracked glaze. I'll try thicker coats. Feels very unnatural!

These are the instruction - it just makes no sense to me that there can be a layer between the strengthened and your nails and it still work, as in the manicure option.

It is such an easy and quick way to achieve a trendy nail art look for your digits. Over the past year some of the biggest names in nail lacquer, including essie and OPI, have joined the bandwagon and released real nail polish strips. If you’re in a rush but still need a great manicure – nail decals are the way to go. Once you’ve gotten used to the application process they can take under 10 minutes to apply – no drying time required.

Last week I picked up a set of OPI’s Pure Lacquer Nail Apps in Reptile. At just under 15 dollars, they are definitely not cheap, but I am a sucker for efficiency and these decals definitely speed up my manicures.

OPI released a collection of 14 designs, comprised of 7 creams and 7 shimmers. Reptile is part of the cream category. Each package comes with 16 nail polish stickers to accommodate different sizes fingers. If you have shorter nails you could probably cut each in half and use them twice – however, once the decals come in contact with the air they begin to set so you’d have to find an air tight way to seal them, or share with a friend.

I chose to use a base coat, even though the instructions advise against it. I find my nails need something to harden and prepare them before applying any sort of colour. I use OPI Nail Envy – which I reviewed here.

In my experience, it was best to use this patten upside down because the top of the patter was much fuller than the bottom – that is up to you though. The application process is quite simple, just remove the plastic separate the stickers and then smooth each decal across your nail. Sometimes starting in the middle of your nail is not the best idea. I found the most success when I moved from the outside to the inside, sticking the decal firmly on the outer edge of your nail and then smoothing it across from the bottom up. You will have quite a bit of excess at the top of your nail but just fold the sticker over the end and smooth with your fingers – eventually the extra polish will tear off. Many people use a nail file to do this but when I tried it was too abrasive and didn’t leave me with the smooth, polished look I desired. It is important to move quickly once you stick each decal on as they heat from your fingers will mold the polish and begin to harden.

Below are some snaps of the finished product. The last picture was taken today after 5 days of wear. They look essentially the same as when I applied them on Wednesday night. I believe they are supposed to last for up to two weeks but I won’t be able to wear the same polish for that long.

Despite the high price – I will buy these again. I like the convenience and the designs, I have my eye of the girly glam pattern.
